Longest Case of Hiccups . . . Who Knew?
Did you know that the longest case of hiccups lasted 68 years? 68 YEARS . . . are you kidding? According to Wikipedia and Guinness World Records, an American by the name of Charles Osborne had the longest attack of hiccups, from 1922 to 1990, with an estimated 430 million diaphragm contractions or hiccups. If you frequently suffer from hiccups, like Charles Osborne, you’re always searching for the latest remedy. Thanks to HiccAway, the search is over!
HiccAway + Rohrer: A Partnership is Born
HiccAway is a unique device that relieves hiccups. It looks like the type of reinforced plastic straw you’d find in a kid’s sippy cup, but with a considerable amount of neuroscience behind it. (More on that later . . . . )
Initially, HiccAway was sold in small, paperboard folding cartons. However, those folding cartons were not helping the product increase sales in pharmacies: the cartons were expensive to produce, labor-intensive to assemble, and they provided little product visibility for consumers.
In 2020, the founders of HiccAway, Dr. Ali Seifi, Amanda Azarpour and Victor Fehlberg, General Manager at Aim Dynamics, contacted Rohrer about developing a new package – one that would help HiccAway fly off the retail shelves!
The Rohrer team developed a creative, tamper-resistant face seal blister package design for HiccAway. “Rohrer did a wonderful job on the new 4/4 cards and blister packaging for HiccAway,” said Victor Fehlberg, HiccAway Co-founder and General Manager of Aim Dynamics. “The designers at Rohrer also developed a 6-pack display tray for pharmacies and other retailers. It was innovative and just what we needed for retail!”
After the new packaging was created, HiccAway began selling their hiccup-relieving product at H-E-B in Texas, adding to their online presence at Amazon® and WalMart.com®. HiccAway was officially launched and on retail shelves.
Diving Into the “Shark Tank”
In early 2022, HiccAway was featured as a new startup business on an episode of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” with investor “sharks” Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner and Daymond John. After explaining their startup business and the device, HiccAway founders, Dr. Ali Seifi, Amanda Azarpour, and Victor Fehlberg, requested a $250,000 investment for 10% equity.
Everyone at Rohrer who worked on the HiccAway package design tuned into “Shark Tank” that Friday evening. It was exciting to cheer for the people we had partnered with and the HiccAway product (in awesome packaging that Rohrer helped develop), up there on the TV screen. Go HiccAway!
HiccAway’s Swim in the “Shark Tank” is a Day at the Beach
How did HiccAway do on “Shark Tank”? At one point, HiccAway had two “sharks” interested in investing: Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary. Ultimately, they decided to go with Mark Cuban for a final deal of a $250,000 investment for 20% equity. You could say HiccAway’s swim in the “Shark Tank” ended as a day at the beach. Amazing results!
Rohrer is so proud of HiccAway and the packaging partnership we’ve created with founders Dr. Ali Siefi, Amanda Azapour, and Victor Fehlberg. Thanks for allowing Rohrer to be a small part of your product launch, your packaging design, and your retail and TV success.
How Does HiccAway Work?
And if you’re wondering if HiccAway may have helped poor Charles Osborne with his 68-year case of hiccups, here’s a brief explanation of the neuroscience behind it: As you sip water using HiccAway, it instantly relieves hiccups by generating enough pressure to lower the diaphragm and activate the epiglottis (that flap of tissue in the back of the throat). At the same time, this activates the phrenic and vagus nerves that are responsible for the hiccup contractions, and basically, resets the brain. Sip using HiccAway and hiccups are gone!
